MB Khalid defends non-bumi PKNS appointment
By ELAN PERUMAL and LIM CHIA YING
(The Star: Wednesday October 29th 2008)

SHAH ALAM: Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has defended the appointment of a non-bumiputra as the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) acting general manager, saying that she is a senior officer who has served for 33 years.

The Selangor Mentri Besar said that Low Siew Moi, who was due for retirement, had served the
44-year-old organisation as its deputy general manager (for corporate development) for the last 11 years. Low was picked from within the PKNS and not “out of nowhere,” he said, adding that she was fully aware of the organisation’s affairs. “Low is fully aware of the fact that she will have to relinquish the position as soon as the right candidate has been identified,” he told a press conference after the State Assembly sitting here yesterday.

Khalid expressed surprise that some quarters had used her being a non-bumiputra as grounds to oppose her appointment.

Meanwhile, the Selangor Malays Residents Action Body held a small demonstration outside the state secretariat building here to protest against the appointment. The group, led by its chairman Kamaruddin Raja Ab Wahid, said the move infringed Malay rights and insulted the Sultans.

Selangor PAS commissioner Da-tuk Dr Hassan Mohamed Ali said that after meeting Khalid, it
was agreed that Low’s appoint-ment would be a short-term measure. “The Mentri Besar has agreed to this proposal and therefore Low’s appointment will be on day-to-day or weekly basis,” Dr Hassan told reporters yesterday. “Now it will depend on PAS to nominate a candidate. After that, a suitable person fills up the post. “The candidate chosen must be experienced in property, accounting and auditing.”

Former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo said it was the Mentri Besar’s prerogative to choose a candidate but that it should have been done in consultation with officers.
“Usually for a high post like this, the person must be a Malay. If I had done this (without consultation), then I would have been labelled as arrogant,” he said.

my saturday adventure

i went to almost every mall in Petaling Jaya today just to look for Joe's bag. my butt hurts now. i don't know why, but maybe it has something to do with the 3 inch heels that i was wearing while scouring the mall.

let see, where did we went to:
Digital Mall
Amcorp Mall
The Curve
Cineplex Damansara
Ikano

that's like almost RM10 in parking fees not to mention a few hundred calories burned (not complaining about that!) because i had to walk fast to keep up with him.

he finally got what he wanted at Ikano (our last destination). what was he looking for? a slim black bag for work.

now who says men doesn't know how to shop? i beg to differ.

the ramblings of a mad woman

these few things drive me crazy:

1. people who pick their nose (and then touches something that belongs to me, or comes near me!)
2. waiting
3. bad breath
4. people who nag (leave me alone!)

and then there are those people who thinks they are busier than everybody. well ok, this happened today. it goes something like this:

***vbm: uh...(in very authoritative tone) can you check out this reference number for me?
did you spoke to the customer recently?
me: ya, on the 2nd. whats up?
vbm: she called and wants her things to be delivered to her. you know, i am not supposed to be doing this.
me: (thinking:huh? really?since when? eh...blur nih..) oook... right. oh i just got an email from a**** about this customer.
vbm: ya.can you call customer? she is expecting a call ok.
me (still blur): right, oook.

if you are my colleague and you are reading this, you'd understand. if not, see my post title :p
anyways, at work, our policy at work is if you receive call from customer you should take it and resolve whatever issue it is. whomever spoke to customer last doesn't matter unless its a special case. which the above is not. this was a simple case of just getting a date of delivery from customer and getting accounts to prepare invoice. we are both in different departments but all departments are still required to do customer service duties due to some unfortunate events.

so after a minute of blurness i'm like...fuuuuuuuuk. so i spoke to a**** who said eh why do you have to call customer back, it should be him nevermind i'll tell him.

a few minutes later vbm called:
vbm: what is this a**** e-mailing me and all asking me to contact customer. i can't be calling customer ok i'm very busy here
me: (fuuuuu@! this jacka** does he think i'm sitting on my desk grinning with flowers behind my ears) look, everyone is busy here but ok if you want me to call, i'll ok?

and so i called customer and eveything is sorted. as for mr vbm, i'm preety sure he'll hear from his manager tomorrow about this.

this is no 5. unbelievable.

***vbm=very busy man
